in 2002, Sakari Kennels informally started because of our passion for
Italian Greyhounds. We started out with a simple request - to purchase
an Italian Greyhound for showing. This proved to be a daunting task. Once
we finally found an IG, we began showing and learned more and more about
the breed. We have decided that we have enough mentors and a solid support
system that could teach and assist us and we have decided to start a small
home kennel, striving to breed high quality IG's and expand this beautiful
breed.
In 2004, while at a dog show, we found and immediately fell in love with the Norwegian Lundehunds, or Lundies as they are affectionately called. These dogs have very similar personalities to Italian Greyhounds, yet they have fur, and many people believe that they resemble a fox. They have become our second passion, and as a very rare breed, we decided that we would add this breed to our kennel permanently and actively lobby for this breed to become AKC recognized. We have very few litters so that quality may be maintained for this wonderful antique breed. We raise all of our dogs in the home with children and adults, actively socializing them at every opportunity. We are active rescue volunteers for the Italian Greyhound Clubs of America, constantly having foster guests in our home for undetermined amounts of time. We are also active members of several kennel clubs promoting responsible animal ownership, animal sportsmanship and lobbying against commercial breeders and the puppymill industry. We treat all of our dogs as if they are our children and we will not place any animal with someone that does not feel the same way. |
